Catherine Laberge
Trauma-Informed Humanist Hypnotherapist, Nervous System Practitioner & Relationship Coach. Canadian and based in Málaga, supporting expats, international clients and multicultural couples.
My work brings together humanistic and Ericksonian hypnosis, coaching, NLP, emotional release techniques and somatic and polyvagal-informed tools. I am also a Reiki Usui Level 2 practitioner.
You know why you want to quit. The difficult part is the moment itself.
You may have stopped before and started again during stress, on holiday or after telling yourself that one cigarette would not matter. Perhaps smoking feels like your only pause, a way to leave a tense situation or a familiar part of being with friends.
We explore those moments in detail. What does the cigarette seem to give you? What do you fear losing when you stop? Understanding that role helps us prepare changes that address your actual routines, rather than relying on a promise to be stronger next time.
The habit and nicotine dependence need their own attention
Smoking can involve learned associations, emotions and physical dependence on nicotine. Cravings may arise from withdrawal as well as from situations such as coffee, alcohol, driving or finishing a meal. An emotional explanation should not replace a plan for withdrawal.
This hypnotherapy and coaching service focuses on motivation, learned responses and preparation. It does not replace established stop-smoking support. A doctor or pharmacist can help you consider suitable treatments. You can use this process alongside that support without being asked to choose one approach against the other.

Does this sound familiar?
Tell me what you would like to change. The free 15-minute call lets us discuss your situation, ask questions and see whether this approach fits. You do not have to choose a technique before we speak.
Preparing a change you can practise
We might explore the belief that a cigarette is essential for calming down, rehearse a difficult social situation or identify a different way to take a break. We also discuss how you want to respond if a craving arrives or you smoke again.
Your plan should fit your work, home life and reasons for stopping. We review what is realistic and what support is missing. There is no claim that hypnosis makes stopping effortless or that a single session will be enough for everyone.
What does smoking do for you?
A cigarette may mark a break, accompany a coffee, punctuate a social moment or feel like a response to tension. Understanding those associations can be useful when you are ready to change.
We begin with your motivation, previous attempts and the situations you expect to find difficult. You do not need to arrive with a perfect plan or feel ashamed about earlier attempts.
Working with habits and choices
Hypnotherapy and coaching can be used to explore the meanings, automatic responses and expectations connected with smoking. We can also consider practical alternatives for familiar situations and ways to respond when an urge appears.
The process is collaborative. We agree on realistic steps and review your experience. I do not promise that one session will remove every craving or that you will never smoke again.
Include the support that is right for you
Nicotine dependence can involve physical as well as behavioural factors. Hypnosis is not presented as a replacement for established smoking-cessation support. A doctor or pharmacist can advise on appropriate options, including medication or nicotine replacement where relevant.
Do not stop prescribed treatment based on this service. We can discuss how this accompaniment might fit alongside other support.
Moving forward without an all-or-nothing approach
A difficult moment is information to learn from, rather than a reason to abandon the process. We can look at triggers, preparation and the resources you want to develop for everyday life.

Your questions
Will one session be enough?
There is no guarantee that one session will be sufficient. The plan depends on your circumstances, preferences and the support you need.
Do I have to stop before contacting you?
No. The discovery call is an opportunity to discuss where you are in the process and whether this work is suitable.
What happens before we start?
The free 15-minute call is a conversation about what brings you, what you have already tried and what you want to change. You can ask about my approach and decide whether a first session feels appropriate. It is a call, not a shortened therapy session, and there is no obligation to continue.
Will I have to be hypnotised?
No. Hypnotherapy is one of the tools available, alongside coaching, body awareness and nervous system regulation. We discuss what an exercise is for before you decide. You remain able to speak, ask questions and stop; you do not have to surrender control or tell me anything you prefer to keep private.
How many sessions should I expect?
We agree on priorities and review how the work is progressing. A focused concern and a longstanding pattern may need different plans. I will discuss what seems realistic for your situation rather than promise a fixed result or a set number of sessions before we have met.
Can I work with you as an expat or online?
Yes. I am Canadian and based in Málaga, and work in English, French and Spanish. Sessions can be in person in La Malagueta or online where suitable. For online sessions, we discuss privacy, a comfortable setting and whether this format fits your needs. Living abroad and multicultural relationships are welcome parts of the conversation.
Can I use nicotine replacement or other stop-smoking treatment?
Yes. Discuss treatment choices with a doctor or pharmacist, including what is suitable for your health. We can work with the behavioural side alongside that support. You are not asked to stop prescribed treatment or avoid established cessation aids to take part in these sessions.
What if I have a cigarette after trying to stop?
We can look at the situation, what happened before the cigarette and what support was missing, without using shame as a strategy. That information can help adapt your plan. It does not mean that future cravings or a successful quit attempt can be guaranteed.
