Catherine Laberge
Trauma-Informed Humanist Hypnotherapist, Nervous System Practitioner & Relationship Coach. Canadian and based in Málaga, supporting expats, international clients and multicultural couples.
My work brings together humanistic and Ericksonian hypnosis, coaching, NLP, emotional release techniques and somatic and polyvagal-informed tools. I am also a Reiki Usui Level 2 practitioner.
You have tried the diets. Why do the same habits return?
You may know a great deal about nutrition. You make a plan, follow it for a while, then a demanding week, a lonely evening or a feeling of restriction brings you back to familiar habits. The disappointment can become another reason to criticise yourself. You do not need another conversation about having more willpower.
In our sessions, we look closely at the moments when your intention and your response part ways. What happens before you reach for food? Is it hunger, a need for comfort, a pause you have not allowed yourself, or something else? We explore your experience rather than decide in advance that every difficulty with weight has an emotional cause.
Emotional patterns and physical factors both matter
Food may become associated with reward, relief, family connection, protection or the end of a stressful day. Those learned associations can feel automatic. Hypnotherapy and coaching offer a setting to explore them and practise alternatives that fit your life.
Weight and appetite also involve physical and environmental factors. Sleep, medicines, health conditions, genetics and the circumstances in which you live can matter. Hypnosis does not diagnose or correct these factors. Where appropriate, this work sits alongside a doctor or registered dietitian, so that an emotional explanation does not hide a physical need.

Does this sound familiar?
Tell me what you would like to change. The free 15-minute call lets us discuss your situation, ask questions and see whether this approach fits. You do not have to choose a technique before we speak.
What we might work on together
A starting point could be the thought “I have ruined the day, so I might as well give up”, eating to settle after conflict, or feeling unable to trust your own choices. We can explore the feelings and beliefs attached to those moments, notice the body’s signals and develop a different response.
For example, we might prepare for the difficult time between finishing work and eating dinner, explore the meaning of a particular food rule, or practise a brief pause before responding to an urge. The aim is a more workable relationship with food and yourself. Weight loss may be your goal, but a particular number of kilos or a lasting outcome cannot be promised.
Looking beyond willpower
Eating habits can be connected with stress, comfort, fatigue, routines, self-criticism and the way you respond to difficult feelings. You may want to understand why intentions are hard to carry into everyday situations.
We focus on your experience and goals rather than assume that a number on the scale defines progress or wellbeing.
What the work can involve
Hypnotherapy and coaching can provide a framework for exploring familiar triggers, beliefs and automatic responses. Body-awareness practices can invite you to notice how you are feeling before acting on an impulse.
Together, we can explore alternatives to all-or-nothing thinking, a more supportive inner dialogue and practical changes that fit your life. We review what is useful without promising a specific weight change or a rapid transformation.
A supportive role, with clear limits
This service focuses on habits, emotions and personal development. It does not provide a diet, a medical weight-loss treatment or nutritional diagnosis. Where relevant, it can sit alongside support from a qualified doctor or dietitian.
If eating causes significant distress, involves compensatory behaviours or raises concerns about an eating disorder, specialist assessment is the appropriate starting point. Hypnosis should not delay that care.
Your goals set the direction
The first step is a conversation about what you would like to work on, what has felt difficult and whether this type of accompaniment is appropriate. No weight-loss target or number of sessions is imposed.

Your questions
Can you guarantee that I will lose weight?
No. I do not promise a number of kilos, a timeframe or a guaranteed outcome. We focus on the patterns and practical goals you want to explore.
Will you give me a diet?
No. Nutritional and medical advice belong with appropriately qualified professionals. My work focuses on the emotional and habitual aspects of your experience.
What happens before we start?
The free 15-minute call is a conversation about what brings you, what you have already tried and what you want to change. You can ask about my approach and decide whether a first session feels appropriate. It is a call, not a shortened therapy session, and there is no obligation to continue.
Will I have to be hypnotised?
No. Hypnotherapy is one of the tools available, alongside coaching, body awareness and nervous system regulation. We discuss what an exercise is for before you decide. You remain able to speak, ask questions and stop; you do not have to surrender control or tell me anything you prefer to keep private.
How many sessions should I expect?
We agree on priorities and review how the work is progressing. A focused concern and a longstanding pattern may need different plans. I will discuss what seems realistic for your situation rather than promise a fixed result or a set number of sessions before we have met.
Can I work with you as an expat or online?
Yes. I am Canadian and based in Málaga, and work in English, French and Spanish. Sessions can be in person in La Malagueta or online where suitable. For online sessions, we discuss privacy, a comfortable setting and whether this format fits your needs. Living abroad and multicultural relationships are welcome parts of the conversation.
Is this another diet programme?
No. These sessions focus on your relationship with food, the meanings attached to eating and the patterns you want to change. I do not prescribe a meal plan, diagnose the cause of weight gain or replace a dietitian. If a diet or weight target is part of medical care, that plan remains with your healthcare professional.
What if eating feels out of control?
Tell me enough for us to discuss suitability without sending detailed health information through the website. Persistent binge eating, purging or severe restriction can need specialist eating-disorder care. An initial conversation helps us consider appropriate support; this service is not presented as a substitute for that care.
